A Magnificient Walk

"If you have a dream you can do yourself, It's not a big enough dream."

A Magnificent Walk

In a moment of fear and anxiety that her mother's breast cancer might be returning, Candace Berkman found out that her Mom was cancer free. In the joy and gratitude she felt, Candace (a client) decided to do something extraordinary. She signed up and joined 3699 other women in walking 60 miles in three days from Carlsbad to San Diego to raise money for breast cancer research.

Candace is not an athlete; she is a woman with a LIFE and little time to train for such a trek. Besides a husband and son, she is in the first five years of a demanding financial business start-up, and she is active in community service projects. However, she decided it was important to make a statement for her Mom and for all women with breast cancer.

She is convinced she could not have accomplished this feat alone. The crowds were amazing; they constantly cheered and encouraged the walkers along the route. The women supported and inspired each other. In fact, the second day walk with 23 miles and two hills to climb would have been impossible without the help of a woman with a special foot pad who stopped to help Candace when her heel was hurting.

Because of their collective efforts, the women in San Diego raised $4,000,000 for breast cancer research and aid to local women's charities.

Candace said she felt like she completed her own personal Olympics when she reached Sea World with all the cheers, and music and celebration. The very best part was that her husband and son and Mom were waiting proudly as she finished.

Wisdom from Candace's Walk:

1. Step out and set an inspiring goal.
2. Magnify your efforts by collaborating
3. Focus on the next pit stop, not the finish line.
4. Use the collective energy when your energy wanes.
5. Maintain your pace so you can take care of yourself.
6. Sleep under the stars.
7. Celebrate the winning of your own goal medal.
