“It
takes a lot of courage to show your dream to someone else.” The Power of the Dream A young boy traveled from one horse farm to the next with his father who was a horse trainer. A teacher at one of the many schools that the boy attended assigned a paper to the students on their dream for the future. The boy wrote about owning his own horse farm with prize thoroughbreds, lush green pastures, stately barns and a beautiful farmhouse on top of a ridge. The teacher returned the graded papers and handed the boy his paper with an ‘F’ marked clearly outside and a note that said, “Rewrite the paper for a better grade. This is an unrealistic dream for a boy like you.” The boy talked with his Dad about the paper and about his dream. His father advised him to decide for himself about rewriting the paper, but reminded his son that what he decided might affect the rest of his life. At school, the next day the boy handed the unchanged paper back to the teacher. He said, “I have decided to leave the F on the paper, and to KEEP my dream.” Monty Roberts, the Horse Whisperer, told this story to his good friend Ken Blanchard as they sat on the deck on Monty’s beautiful home overlooking 480 acres of lush pastureland where fine horses grazed. He showed Ken a framed copy of the paper, with the ‘F’ on the front and said, “That little boy was me.”
