“Our
greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall."
Adapting to the Changes Around Us For generations archeologists puzzled over the great Puebloan ruins of the American Southwest at sites like Mesa Verde. In their explorations, many concluded that the long-lost Anasazi must have abandoned their cities during invasions or withering drought. “Don’t believe any of it,” archeologists concluded at the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Denver last month. They know that the Anasazi didn’t disappear but live on as the modern Pueblo people, and that they are an example of how humans adjust by adapting to changes around them. “We now see the Southwest as a sequence of shifting adaptations rather than a sequence of failures,” Dr. Margaret Nelson, archeologist from Arizona State. Think about something that you consider a failure in your life. What if it was not a failure at all but an adaptation to a life event? If we make a shift in our thinking from "failures" to "adaptations," we can recognize and be grateful that we are the person we are today because of our ability to adapt and triumph over difficult life changes! ~o^o~
