“The joy in life is to be used for a purpose. I want to be used up when
I die.
George Bernard Shaw Our interconnection with people as well as all of nature is fascinating to me. It seems we are all here on this planet for a very important purpose. Guy Gugliotta, in the Washington Post, wrote about an amazing turnaround in Yellowstone National Park. For seventy years, trees along the rivers in the park didnt grow. Shoots sprang up but soon disappeared. It was a mystery! In 1995, fifteen gray wolves were released into the park after being missing for seventy years. Now nine years later trees flourish along all the riverbanks. Why? It seems the elk without natural predators moved along the rivers eating the tender shoots. Once the wolves were re-introduced the elk moved back into the woods. Now that the trees shade and cool the water, trout once again abound in the rivers. Also missing were the beaver- now communities of beaver use the low-hanging willow branches to build their dams. The beaver create marshlands with their dams, and back came the otter, mink, muskrats and ducks. After
nine years, 250 and 300 wolves live in the 2.2 million acre park and
they are simply showing up doing what they were meant to do. The results
are astonishing. Life
