63 Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. Margaret Mead It is a remarkable story! In 1995, a young 12-year-old Canadian read a newspaper article about a Nicaraguan boy who did day labor and couldnt go to school or enjoy his childhood. Craig Kielburgers Internet research showed that there were children all over the world who were forced to work. He decided he would unite young people who wanted to help so he started, Free the Children. In the past 10 years, Free the Children has grown into an international organization, and has built more than 400 primary schools that educate more than 35,000 children. Oprahs Angel Network has joined Free the Children to build 100 rural schools around the world. And since the tragic Tsunami, Oprah has partnered with Free the Children to rebuild schools, create fresh water sources, and distribute schools supplies and health kits. By
starting Free the Children, Craig has impacted more than
one million children in 35 countries. He has traveled to 40 countries,
met world leaders and received amazing accolades and awards, and he
is only 22 years old. He and his older brother Marc have written several
books including a new book titled Me to We that inspires
and challenges people to improve their own lives by helping others.
One small boy was touched and decided to take action. It has made
a difference for children all over the world. Copyright 2005 Life Upgrade All Rights Reserved |
